Timber Engineering Laboratory

Mechanical testing of structural sized timber and timber components. Testing includes: Bending Stiffness and Strength, Tension, Shear, Compression, Creep, Glue-line Durability, Cyclic and P21 testing. Products tested include: Solid timber, Finger jointed, laminated, Laminated Veneer Lumber, Cross Laminated Timber, Plywood, Timber fastenings Nails, Screws, Bolted joints. As new processes and treatments are developed for use with structural timber, whether the intent is to stop decay, insect attach, increase surface hardness, improve resistance to fire we need to know and understand the affect these new treatments and/or processes have on the structural performance of the timber.
